Fall Osesshin 2008 with Shodo Harada Roshi

Everyone in the community is welcome to attend the Roshi's daily teisho (dharma talk) at 1:00 p.m. in the Zendo, unless announced otherwise. There will be a dharma talk each afternoon, September 6 – 12.

The September Osesshin is completely full, with a substantial wait list for full-time places in the Zendo.

Sangha support is crucial to the success of the Osesshin at Tahoma Monastery. Deep thanks to everyone who has helped prepare the Monastery for this retreat and for the Roshi's visit.

The kitchen welcomes donations of produce and pantry items especially just before or during the Osesshin.

We still need sarei sweets for several nights. If you want to contribute sarei sweets, please contact Myosho.

If you are able to offer transportation for people coming to the retreat from out of town, please let Myosho know.

As is customary, the Monastery will be sequestered during Osesshin and not open to casual visitors. There will be no Zazenkai on September 7.

Mini-Sesshin

Friday, Sept 26 to Sunday, Sept 28

Mini-Sesshin will begin at 6:00 p.m. Friday and run until 7:00 a.m. Sunday. The schedule is focused on maximizing Zazen and will include formal Zen silent meals. If you are coming for the first time or need a refresher on Zendo and formal meal procedures, please arrive at 5:00 p.m. Friday for instruction and orientation. Please join us for all or part of the sesshin. If at all possible, please let us know that you will be coming, and when.

The mini-sesshin schedule is here

Memorial Service

The memorial service for Tom Mitsuyu Kelley, given by Harada Roshi, will be held in the Zendo, Friday, September 5 at 1:00.

Landscape Donations and Damage

It would be lovely to add to the two Amelanchier 'Autumn Brilliance' trees (the beginning of a grove) in front of the Zendo. We're hoping for a grove of six or seven trees and are wishing for a gift of one of those beautiful trees.

Also, the deer are in the gardens again and doing severe damage. New fencing and the labor to install it, or perhaps just a donation of repair time, would be very gratefully received.

Welcome

Welcome to JoBul Zenji, from Poland and Sogenji who has been at Enso house and now will be Head Monk for the Monastery at the end of Osesshin. Ekei Zenji returns to Sogenji, and we offer him best wishes and sincere gratitude for his friendship and good care of Tahoma Monastery over the past many months.

Thank You

Thank you to all who are continually contributing effort, time, resources, care and goodwill to Tahoma Zen Monastery. We are very grateful for your gifts of substance and service.

May we always live in a way that makes us worthy to receive your offerings.

Ideal for beginners, Zazenkai includes sutra chanting, zazen, walking meditation and a short reading from texts by Shodo Harada Roshi. Afterwards, tea and sweets are served in the dining hall, and there is an opportunity for conversation and discussion.
